Around 5:30 p.m. Friday, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers observed a vehicle stopped in the No. 1 lane on the Sand Canyon off-ramp from the 14 Freeway, occupied by a possible drunk driver, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson with the CHP Newhall Area Office. '(The driver) was slumped over the steering wheel, asleep in the driver seat while stopped at a signal,' Greengard said. Officers contacted the driver, Jose Salazar, 38, from Palmdale who was subsequently arrested for DUI, Greengard said.
